Handler was a simple housewife but her husband was known for being the co-founder of the famous toy company by the name of Mattel. Constantly watching this particular act of her baby girl, Ruth was of the idea that if a particular kind of toy doll can be introduced into the market just similar to the one that her girl plays with, then it won’t be much of a bad proposition. During the year 1956 while being in the midst of a trip, the Handler couople came across a German toy doll by the name of Bid Lilli. Ruth bought two pieces of this particular German doll, one she gave to her daughter Barbara and the other was taken back so as to show the founders of the Mattel toy company. On returning back to the united states of America, Handler worked very hard towards the completion of her own version that somewhat resembled to that of the German Bild Lilli Doll. She named this particular form as Barbie after the name of her own daughter Barbara.
