Ruth bought two pieces of this particular German doll, one she gave to her daughter Barbara and the other was taken back so as to show the founders of the Mattel toy company. On returning back to the united states of America, Handler worked very hard towards the completion of her own version that somewhat resembled to that of the German Bild Lilli Doll. She named this particular form as Barbie after the name of her own daughter Barbara.
