If one knows something about the evolutionary history about the Barbie dolls, then he or she will know that controversies of different levels have been associated with this particular doll and that too several times. Some say that this conception of associating controversies with these artistic creations have been purposefully done so as to give a media hype to the entire thing as a result of which, their subsequent sales will experience a sever hike in the market. One of these controversies that can be associated with this particular category of dolls called the Barbie was witnessed in the year 2003. In the month of September 2003, the Middle Eastern oil giant by the name of Saudi Arabia banned the sale of this particular form of the doll in their country. The controversies about Barbie have always been a topic of discussion.
The main point behind this act of the Saudis was that this particular form of creation was not in accordance with the rules and norms of Islam. The Saudis are also known to severely criticize the dress code that is in general found to be maintained by this particular artistic creation. They had also called this Doll by the name of Barbie to be a creation of the western countries that they always thought to be perverted. Several Middle Eastern countries also gave a positive nod to this against Barbie doll agitation that was initially raised by the Saudis and created a own doll for themselves that was better known as the Fulla. This doll was found similar to Barbie is many respects but was designed strictly keeping in mind the traditional mindset and norms of the Islam following mass all over the world. This was to a large degree responsible for making the Fulla more acceptable among the entire western masses. Some people say that the meaning of the word Barbie as per English language is a shallow girl. If this is true, then the name is quiet vindictive as it explains the character of a girl and that too in not the best of terms.
However, till date the most common point upon which this particular form of artistic creation by the name of Barbie has been criticized is due to its manifestation or portrayal of the un-realistic body image of a woman. According to many learned people, the clothing or in general the attire that is commonly portrayed by this artistic creation is provocative and can change the mindset of teenagers making them a bit tilted towards the vital statistics of this doll rather than merely use it as a pastime. There is indeed some amount of reality behind all these acquisitions that have been made against this doll by the name of Barbie. However, Barbie till date remains to be the most popular doll to be available among the kids all over the world.
